Our guest judge this year is Leslie Anderson, Director of Collections, Exhibitions, and Programs at the Nordic Museum in Seattle, WA!
Leslie Anderson oversees the curatorial and education functions of the National Nordic Museum (Seattle) as its Director of Collections, Exhibitions, and Programs. From 2015 until 2019, she was Curator of European, American, and Regional Art at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, University of Utah. In this role, she grew the collections in her purview through gift and purchase and curated several exhibitions, including the reinstallation of European and American art galleries, for which she received the national award for excellence from the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC), and the recent Power Couples: The Pendant Format in Art, selected by The Utah Review as one of the state's top ten cultural moments in 2019. Her museum career began with an internship at the University of Florida's Harn Museum of Art in 2006 and has included appointments at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Denmark. For six years, she taught art history courses at Brooklyn College, Parsons the New School for Design, and Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and Design; and she served as a reader for the Advanced Placement Art History exam for five years.
The recipient of a Fulbright Research Grant and American-Scandinavian Foundation Fellowship, Leslie has published articles on 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century French, Danish, and American art in the scholarly journals Journal 18, Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide, Panorama: Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art, Norwegian-American Studies, and Rutgers Art Review. She serves as Field Editor for West Coast Exhibitions for caa.reviews, a journal devoted to the peer review of art exhibitions, as a member of the College Art Association's Council of Readers, AAMC's Conference Benefit Committee, and as a mentor for the University of Florida Association of Hispanic Alumni's Conexiones program.
